What does it take to be successful in today's workplace? It's a question that I routinely ask myself in my ongoing quest to raise my game and add value to both Women & Co. and our parent company, Citibank. So, perhaps not surprisingly, as I embarked on my series of Inspiring Insights interviews, I posed this very question to the executives and entrepreneurs with whom I spoke.
All in all, the 23 women interviewed identified 32 different traits (don't you just love the symmetry!), of which eight rose to the top:
• Confidence and courage
• Integrity
• Work ethic
• Determination and perseverance
• Perspective
• Flexibility and adaptability
• Active listening and communications
• Strategic vision and tactical execution
So, I'm curious: what do you think about the eight? Are these the "right" eight in your view? Why or why not? And, how have you applied these in practice to keep your career trajectory moving forward and upward?

I think that these are all awesome qualities to have in order to be successful. However, there is one big thing that I think is missing from this list, and that would be love! I always feel that it is easier to be successful when you have a loving support system behind you. Healthy relationships with family, friends, and significant others are the key to happiness, and people need happiness in order to be complete, even if they are successful. Plus, what success do you really have if you aren't happy and loved? Family always comes first!
I agree with the 8 however I would add one more. Honesty. I think it is a trait that has lost significance in this high tech age.
I enjoyed reading “Eight Traits for Success,” and I’m really crazy about the amazing eight! Everyone, especially women at Citi should read this article. Who needs 10 when 8 will do? I see a unified theme in life and business -- individualism. Decisions we make every day, hone our natural habits including our intuitions, ambitions, ethics and vision, bringing us to higher levels of accomplishments and success beyond our wildest dreams.
